May 16 is Sea Monkey Day! Stars0 reviews (Do you like this day? Rate it!)

Sea Monkey Day I had never known these magical little creatures existed until my son's 6th birthday, when he got them for a birthday gift. (And then his new Superhero alter ego became Sea Monkey Man!) Sea Monkeys are tiny brine shrimp that you hatch from a kit. It is really bizarre to me how you 'just add water' and the eggs come to life. Apparently, they've been around for a long time, and there's even a day dedicated to them...today!

I will be honest, this day is as strange as the creatures themselves!

Monkey Mo Goes to Sea Monkey Mo Goes to Sea by Diane Goode
A good deed justifies the presence of Bertie's monkey Mo on a boat. (Well, not exactly about sea monkeys, but about a monkey at sea. That's as close as I could find!)

Raise Your Own Sea Monkeys

Part of celebrating Sea Monkey day, would have to include, well ... sea monkeys. We have found them at our local toy store, but you can also find them online.

Sea Monkey Bread

This bread is delicious! (Don't worry, sea monkeys are not part of the recipe!)
Sea Monkey Bread

What You'll Need:

  • 1/3 c white sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 36 oz refrigerated whole wheat pizza dough
  • 1/2 c chopped almonds (optional)
  • 1/2 c raisins (optional)
  • 6 T butter
  • 1 c brown sugar

How To Make:

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 10-inch tube pan.

2.Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a plastic bag. Cut pizza dough into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Shake 6 to 8 pieces of dough in the sugar-cinnamon mix. Arrange pieces in bottom of prepared pan. Continue until all dough pieces are coated and placed in pan. Arrange nuts and raisins in and among dough pieces.

3.Melt butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over dough; let rise for 30 minutes.

4.Bake in preheated oven until bread is golden brown, about 35 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Pull apart pieces of bread to eat.
